What is Diamond?

Diamond gives us a clear picture of the people working across the UK television industry so we can support a fairer and more inclusive sector for everyone.

FAQs

Purpose

The UK television industry is made up of hundreds of thousands of people across different roles, locations, experiences, and backgrounds.

To support it properly, we need to understand who is working in the industry, who is getting opportunities and where gaps and barriers exist.

Diamond provides an industry-wide view on representation. This helps organisations make better decisions about skills, interventions, funding and development aimed at building a more open, inclusive sector.

How It Works

A broadcaster commissions a
new show

Production companies invite their teams and suppliers to take part

People can complete a short survey about themselves and their work

No single response is ever visible. Only grouped, anonymised data is used.

Responses are anonymised and combined with others

The data creates a picture of the industry

That picture helps organisations take action

What does that mean for me?

The more people who get involved, the clearer the picture we all have about our industry

Whether you're new to the industry or have worked in it for years, if you contribute to a production commissioned by one of our members, you will be sent a Diamond survey.

The survey asks questions about you and your work to help build a picture of our sector. This picture helps us to understand the challenges faced by people across different roles, regions and backgrounds, and take steps to improve opportunities and conditions for all.

These steps are taken by a broad range of industry bodies and include shaping strategies, lobbying government, running training and development programmes, creating initiatives and policies, and funding interventions that improve working conditions.

The survey takes five minutes, and once you've completed it the first time, you can link it to future projects without having to fill it in again.

Nobody but you can ever see your answers to the Diamond survey. Your answers are anonymous and protected with state-of-the-art privacy technology - find out more about that on our privacy page.

How you take part in the Diamond survey is completely your choice. All questions are optional - you can respond to every question, or none at all.

Your data is yours - with your new Diamond profile, you can update, unlink, or delete your data at any time with the click of a button.

Looking ahead

Our ambition is for Diamond's picture to include everyone who makes TV happen. The new Diamond is a big step forward, but there's more to come.

From 2027, we will be engaging with other vital parts of the industry, to find out what you need and how Diamond could help.
